Translation

Solovki

From the bustling to the sorrow there are two steps.
And, God it sees, I couldn't help,
But I have deported myself to Solovki
For a little, but a sensible time.
Arkhangelsk's pier swims into the fars away
And the night was white, as the white day.
And I have imagined myself monasteries,
And even heard their bells.
But the morning was higher than any dream
And the ship was watching, with its mouth opened,
As the monastery unstoppably grew,
As the city-whale, — fight from under water.
In this same moment, I have realized,
That any goals for me are free,
But the case of hands is eternal,
Only if you obsessively believe.
Five days among the firs, stones and water
Kept by nothing, have nothing to bear
I walked, and everywhere I go I found the steps
The age of two hypostasises, of two times.
Around the towers ditch were laid along,
But ditch's no longer ditch — it's just ravine.
And the conformity of church's domes
Argues with the unclear 'sixth barrack'...
But in the thousand thirty-dusky year,
When happened to be in these holy lands,
Some juvenile has constructed a star
On the place of the Orthodox cross.
How did he get there — only God could know, —
Was he rushed by dear, did hid hand obey him,
But when he got there, he was shortened his age,
And we are left with the memory for centuries.
Let it be — let the Solovky keep
The cold wind of these recent years.
And in the God's Temple in front of tsar's gates
Let the 'Lazareth' label be seen.
I've heard that restorers menace
About turning this island into the museum.
But I'm afraid, — they'll never realize
Which one of two museums do we need.
